Growth from Not Knowing - How the Gift Idea Came About

Growth from Not Knowing - How the Gift Idea Came About

I wish we could take credit for every, single good idea related to Big Adventure Box. After all, we should know the business inside and out, right? While I agree that  your own intuition is essential in creating your vision, I have also learned that you can also grow by recognizing that it is only natural to have your own limitations.

I don't have all the answers. I don't even have close to all the answers. While this may be disheartening to some, I find it extremely beneficial.

Once you realize that you do not know everything, you open yourself up to to suggestions and ideas, some of which will go on to shape your business and marketing. From this perspective, your business can grow infinitely based on what others may think, instead of being solely contained by what only you think. It only takes a little humility and ego-checking to open up this huge benefit.

Around this time last year, we received an order from a customer with an interesting set of Special Instructions: "This is for my niece and nephew for their trip next month. Can you deliver it as a gift?"

Amanda and I asked each other, "Why didn't we think of that?" We had never even thought to market our product as a gift idea, but after hearing that, we loved the idea. The customer did not just want to give a material gift, they wanted to give the gift of a special experience. We would love for others to do the same.

The order itself was easy to fulfill, but the the idea was more lasting, and changed the way we choose our marketing strategy this time of year.

This year, we hope more people purchase our product as a unique and creative gift idea, so we created a seasonal promotion code. Our Instagram and Facebook feeds mention using our product as a gift idea, instead of our typical message of enhancing year-round vacations and the spirit of exploring.

Where will the next idea come from? I'm not sure, but I'll be listening just in case.

Happy Exploring,

Alex Winter
